Second event in our ‘Utopia and Colonialism’ programme, focussing on anti-colonial utopias by black and indigenous writers.
Book group discussion of Terra Nullius by Claire G. Coleman. Open to all.
A story about the colonisation of Australia, retold as science fiction. The Australian Aboriginal author intends her work to be a ‘targeted empathy bomb’ aimed at non-Indigenous cultures. Not easy to describe without spoilers, but suffice to say it is a stark reminder that Indigenous cultures have already experienced apocalypse and a fierce critique of colonial logic.
