  • 04/12/17
  • 18:30 - 20:00

All are welcome to the Bristol Cable monthly members’ meeting on December 4th.

This time Cable members join with Avonmouth village residents to decide how your local media should be covering the dispute around port land and pollution in Avonmouth.

On the agenda

  • Updates from The Bristol Cable (and introduction to who we are)
  • Dodgy decisions at Avonmouth port? Talk and Q&A with journalist Lorna Stephenson
  • Discussion: what should local media be doing in response to concerns about the port, pollution and planning in Bristol?

More info: Dodgy decisions at Avonmouth port?

We’re continuing to cover the dispute about the incinerator ash processing plant at Avonmouth Port which is going to a two-week long public inquiry on 28th November.

Our journalist Lorna Stephenson will give a background into her findings about the proposals and the role of various agencies in regulating port activity, the wider debate about incineration as the cornerstone of waste strategy, and how Avonmouth has become a ‘waste processing capital’ of the south-west.

We’ll invite discussion about what the Bristol Cable should be doing in response to residents’ concerns about democracy and accountability in decisions around the port, and about planning in Bristol.

Let’s find out how to make local media that works for and on behalf of communities all across Bristol.
