From the Ground Up – a showcase of grassroots community action in Bristol and a call for support, organised by Bristol Redistro
In Bristol there are countless community organisers and activists working hard on the ground to support, uplift and fight for the people around them. These are people who have seen a need in their community and stepped up to meet that need because no one else will. Unpaid and with few resources, it’s tough work – but it’s the work that really counts because it comes from those who know what people need because they are those people.
Whilst a small amount goes a long way, even small amounts can be difficult to find. In the meantime, there are many people in Bristol who are in a position to donate amounts of money that would be life changing for these groups.
Bristol Redistro raises money from those who have more than they need and redistributes it to groups that are often unseen and overlooked by donors and funders. Projects supported so far include: trans+ healthcare, reducing isolation of migrants and refugees, educational support for young people of African and Caribbean descent, healing support for sexual abuse survivors, community gardens, sex worker rights, police monitoring, walking and climbing groups for people of colour and support for people with sickle cell anaemia. We believe the people doing the work are the experts, so they’re the ones who decide where our funding goes.
The evening will include a panel discussion, performances and a chance to chat with groups over food. You will hear directly from grassroots groups about the challenges they face to access the support they need. They’ll also share their important work with you through a showcase. This event will give you the opportunity to find out how you can support grassroots groups in Bristol, whether through your time, donations or access to other resources. We hope you’ll join us and invite some friends too!

Black led fraternal organisations based in Bristol which aim to promote health and well being within the Elders and young people in the community.

Rebel Girls Club is an extraordinary space for anyone who identifies as a woman to come share, learn, connect, grow and be supported without judgement

Founded by Hamsa Hassan at the age of 23, Nextgen Circle uses football as a tool to empower young people from minoritised backgrounds.
