On 6 May 2021, Bristol holds its 3rd mayoral election (postponed from 2020). A collaborative partnership of the Chartered Institution of Building (CIOB), Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) and Constructing Excellence South West are hosting a debate for candidates to outline and be quizzed on their aspirations, ideas, and plans around placemaking, infrastructure and the climate.

How will the new Mayor ensure a thriving, sustainable Bristol, and work collaboratively with West of England partners? How will be new homes be delivered in the numbers and quality required? How will city and sub-regional infrastructure reduce carbon emissions, congestion and stress? How will technology be embraced to support the city address the climate emergency? How will people and communities be engaged with the city to ensure a place for everyone to live, work and play? How will the city recover and prosper post-Covid.

Hosted by Elena Marco, Head of Department Architecture and the Built Environment at UWE Bristol, our Bristol Mayoral Debate brings together built environment professionals and future professionals to engage with and quiz the candidates.

Candidates confirmed for the debate are:

Sandy Hore-Ruthven, Green Party

Dr Caroline Gooch, Liberal Democrat

Marvin Rees, Labour

Alastair Watson, Conservative
