CABLE LOCAL DEMOCRACY HACK JAM
The Cable is on a crusade to improve people’s access to local democracy. As the world becomes more convoluted and media barrons and tech oligarchs do everything in their power to enforce a web based “fog of war” it becomes harder and harder for us general citizens to understand how to exercise our power in the city around us.
These hack jams are the Cable’s response. We come together, utilising the power of tech and collective action for good. We aim to uncover all of the goings on behind the scenes of Bristol and to present it to our readers in a format that is clear and simple to understand, so that we can each exercise our roles as active citizens in a “liberal” “democracy”.
Whilst these events will think about how to apply tech to questions around local democracy, it’s not essential that you have a tech background or understand tech particularly, as there will be people who do. If you’re just interested in local democracy and have thoughts about things we can investigate then you can join the jam and help us figure out the avenues to go down.
