Prepare for high adventure as Forbidden Worlds celebrates the cinematic world of fantastical myths and legends from around the world

This April, Forbidden Worlds is unleashing a line-up of classic and cult films featuring everything from mythical realms and otherworldly landscapes to ferocious beasts and heroic warriors.

Screenings include a new 4K restoration of Arthurian classic Excalibur; a special 40th anniversary screening of Highlander; French horror-adventure The Brotherhood of the Wolf; prehistoric adventure The Clan of the Cave Bear; fantasy Samurai adventure The Legend of the 8 Samurai; new restorations of European fantasy curios Conquest (from Italian horror maestro Lucio Fulci) and Star Knight that sees a Spanish medieval town visited by an alien spacecraft; cult animated fantasy adventure Fire and Ice; and a special 45th anniversary screening of Clash of the Titans.

Special guests include this year’s Forbidden Legend, world-renowned armourer Terry English, who made the stunning armour for Excalibur as well as swords and weapons for hit films like Aliens, First Knight, The 13th Warrior, Gladiator and more.

The Ray and Diana Harryhausen Foundation will also be attending to introduce Clash of the Titans and talk about the effect Greek myths had on legendary stop motion animator Ray Harryhausen, as well as a presenting a screening of 1940’s The Thief of Bagdad – the film that was a massive influence on Disney’s Aladdin.

The festival will also once again be celebrating the Genre Film-makers of the Future with the return of its short film showcase where attendees can enjoy new action, horror, sci-fi and fantasy shorts from filmmakers both local and international.

Forbidden Worlds Film Festival is Bristol’s leading genre film festival dedicated to screening repertory fantasy, action, science-fiction and horror films from around the world, and celebrating the people who made them.
