NICARAGUA COMES TO MSHED – FUN EVENT FOR FAMILIES
A free event for children and families based on the culture of Nicaragua in Central America, is taking place at MShed this August.
The event marks the 35th anniversary of the official twinning between Bristol and Puerto Morazan in North West Nicaragua.
Come and make a mask inspired by the “Gueguense” traditional dance or create a paper Puerto Morazan prawn, farmed in the shadow of volcanoes.
Original colouring sheets with images of Nicaragua and Puerto Morazan will be on offer for younger children to colour in, take home and learn about Nicaraguan culture.
Nicaraguan stories such as “Mother Scorpion Country” and “The Invisible Hunters” will be part of storytelling sessions during the day.
Special guest is former mayor George Ferguson who has recently been to Nicaragua and who is launching a Fundsurfer to help build a preschool for under-fives in Puerto Morazan.
Steve Roser from Bristol Link with Nicaragua said: “It’s not everyday that local children get the chance to learn a bit about Nicaragua while being creative at the same time. We want as many families with young children as possible to take part in our exciting free event. Viva Nicaragua”
Laura from Colourful Minds said: “enjoy a day of colourful art activities, creative play and storytelling for all ages while learning about Bristol’s link with North West Nicaragua.”
