Reporting from the from the Jungle, Calais
The Bristol Cable will be hosting a workshop with journalist Shafik Mandhai.
As an Al Jazeera reporter, Shafik has covered several stories from a context of humanitarian crises such as the refugee camps of the Jungle in Calais (along with other works on austerity in Europe or Islamophobia). During the workshop, Shafik will be sharing his experience in terms of the challenges faced when reporting from the field, key considerations, and how to share information about victims of a difficult context whilst ensuring their protection.
City of Sanctuary will also be involved in the workshop, to highlight how refugees and asylum seekers experience media presence and involvement, whether this is seen as a source of hope or as a threat, and how can reporters be supportive and approach people in an adequate and responsible way.
The workshop is opened to all those that want to gain reporting skills or are interested in media and/or refugee and asylum seekers issues.
The event free for both Bristol Cable members* and refugees/asylum seekers. For non-members, the price is £4 (+booking fee)
Room capacity is limited to please secure your place in advance.
