Privacy International and the Bristol Cable have spent the last year trying to uncover some of the new ways that we can be subject to surveillance, and how data is gathered about us, in order to bring transparency, and to safeguard individual liberties.

We invite you to an evening to discuss the findings of our investigations, and to consider how we can find out what information may be held about us.

Millie Graham Wood from Privacy International and Alon Aviram from the Bristol Cable will give an overview of some of the snooping technologies out there, and we’ll discuss what action we can take to safeguard our civil liberties.

Daniel Carey, solicitor at Deighton Pierce Glynn, will discuss the human rights and data protection implications surrounding this surveillance.

The technologies we will explore include mobile phone extraction, IMSI catchers and predictive policing.

In April 2017 Bristol Cable members voted for the Cable get more involved in ‘campaigning journalism’. Since then we’ve been adding our voices to a campaign to stop the use of devices that could infringe human rights law.
